The best hard floor cleaners in Australia
Quick answer: For most homes the best hard floor cleaner is the Tineco FLOOR ONE S7 Stretch: a 1 L clean tank, up to 50 minutes a charge and a roller dried with 85°C hot air, for $497 at The Good Guys ($499 from Tineco). For the cleanest edges, the Dreame H15 Pro adds a robotic corner arm and a 100°C self-wash ($499 at Dreame; Amazon Australia also sells it). On a tight budget, the 2.3 kg Dreame Floor X100 is $299.

How we picked: We compared these 8 picks on tanks, run time, self-cleaning and price, using maker specs, Australian retailer prices and owner reports. We haven't tested them hands-on yet, and maker claims are labelled as theirs. Commission never changes the order. Full method.
A hard floor cleaner vacuums and washes a sealed floor in one pass, then keeps the dirty water in its own tank. The machines in this guide are sold in Australia from $299 to $1,199, and the price buys four things: tank size, run time, how well the roller is cleaned and dried afterwards, and how close the head gets to the skirting boards. Prices below are from The Good Guys, JB Hi-Fi, Tineco, Dreame, Bissell and Shark on 18 October 2026; for models also on Amazon Australia, check the current price on Amazon. We compared maker specifications, retailer listings and warranty terms; we have not run these machines on our own floors.
Hard floor cleaner, steam mop or vacuum and mop
Three kinds of machine get sold for the same job. A wet-dry hard floor cleaner (also sold as a wet-dry vacuum or floor washer) has a motorised roller, a clean water tank, suction and a dirty water tank, so it picks up crumbs and spills while it washes. That is what this guide covers. A steam mop heats water and pushes steam through a pad; it has no suction, so you sweep or vacuum first. The steam mop guide covers those. A roller floor cleaner such as Kärcher’s FC range uses several microfibre rollers instead of one brush roll, with the same two-tank idea.
If you are still deciding between a vacuum-mop and a garage-style wet and dry vacuum, the wet dry vacuum guide explains the difference.
The numbers that matter
- Tank sizes. A 1 L clean tank covers more floor between refills than a 610 mL one. Check the dirty tank too, and check it lying flat: Dreame’s H15 Pro holds 700 mL standing but less than 480 mL flat.
- Run time, and the mode it was measured in. Tineco quotes up to 50 minutes for the S7 Stretch; Dreame quotes 35 minutes for the T16 AE in Quiet mode. Full power uses the battery faster.
- Self-cleaning and drying. Every cordless pick here rinses its own roller. The difference is drying: Tineco’s S7 Stretch finishes with 85°C hot air, Dreame’s H15 Pro with 90°C, while Bissell’s CrossWaves list no heated drying.
- Edges. Most clean on both sides. The Dreame H15 Pro and Tineco S9 Artist Steam clean on three sides.
- Weight. From 2.3 kg (Dreame Floor X100) to 5.8 kg (Dreame H15 Pro). Weight matters if you carry it upstairs.
- Floors. Read the maker’s list. “Sealed hard floors” is the usual wording.

The picks
The Tineco FLOOR ONE S7 Stretch is the one we would buy for a typical home of tile, vinyl and sealed timber. It has a 1 L clean tank and a 0.72 L dirty tank, Tineco rates it for up to 50 minutes, and after the self-clean it dries the roller with 85°C hot air. It lies flat to 180° and compresses to about 13 cm for under beds, and a DualBlock comb and scraper stop hair wrapping the roller. It was $497 at The Good Guys and $499 at Tineco, which shows that price as a sale against $999, so it will move.
The Dreame H15 Pro is the pick if corners bother you. A robotic arm pushes the roller towards front corners, it cleans on three sides, and its self-clean washes the brush at 100°C then dries it at 90°C in five minutes. It is rated for 60 minutes. The cost is weight: 5.8 kg. Dreame had it for $499 on 18 October against a $1,099 regular price; Amazon Australia also sells it, so check the current price there.
The Tineco FLOOR ONE S7 FlashDry is the Tineco to buy on Amazon. It does not lie flat, but it is self-propelled, cleans both edges, and dries the roller at 70°C. Tineco’s own store lists it at $499 as clearance.
The Bissell CrossWave OmniForce EdgeFind suits homes with rugs between the hard floors. Bissell says it has a dedicated dry-vacuum mode with 75% more suction, and it lists low-pile rugs and carpet alongside sealed floors and bamboo. The trade-offs are a 30 minute run time and no heated drying. It was $349 at The Good Guys.
The Kärcher FC 8 Smart Signature Line is the one for parquet and stone. Kärcher lists parquet, laminate, stone, tiles and vinyl, and lets you set water volume and roller speed per floor type. Its tanks are small (400 mL and 200 mL). Amazon Australia sells it directly.
The Bissell CrossWave HydroSteam is corded, so there is no battery to run down, and it steams only in SteamWash mode. Bissell says it is not designed as a dry vacuum. The Shark HydroVac Pro XL is the lightest full-size machine at 3.9 kg ($399), and the Dreame Floor X100 is a 2.3 kg mopping machine for $299 with a one-year warranty (The Good Guys).
Floors: what “sealed” means
Every maker here limits its machine to sealed floors. A sealed floor has a coating, such as polyurethane on timber, that stops water soaking in. Oiled, waxed and unsealed boards do not. CHOICE says steam can damage cork and unsealed or waxed timber, and reports that some timber and laminate makers warn steam forced between boards can cause cupping and delamination. If your floor’s warranty bans wet cleaning or steam, that applies to these machines too. Kärcher is the only maker here that names oiled and waxed parquet, on its FC 5 Cordless page; its FC 8 page lists parquet without naming a finish.
Running costs
Budget for rollers, filters and solution. Tineco sells a kit of two brush rollers and two HEPA filters for its Stretch and S9 Artist models for $89.90, and Tineco’s 1 L cleaning solution was $39 at The Good Guys. Bissell sells CrossWave brush rolls from $21.95, and its FAQ recommends a new filter every 3 to 4 months and a new brush roll every six months.

The one trap
Buying on the headline numbers. Run times are quoted in the mode that makes them longest: Dreame’s T16 AE is rated at 35 minutes in Quiet mode, and its H16 Pro Steam drops from 60 minutes in Quiet mode to 18 minutes with steam on. Suction is quoted in pascals, which makers measure their own way. Compare tank sizes, the drying temperature and the floors the maker lists, then the price.

Frequently asked questions
Are hard floor cleaners worth it?
If most of your floors are sealed tile, vinyl, laminate or timber, yes: one pass vacuums crumbs and washes the floor, and the dirty water goes into a separate tank instead of back onto the floor. If your home is mostly carpet, a stick vacuum and a carpet washer will do more for the money.
Can you use a hard floor cleaner on timber floors?
On sealed timber, the makers say yes: Bissell lists sealed timber and engineered floors, Kärcher lists parquet. On oiled, waxed or unsealed boards, follow the flooring maker's care instructions first, and never use a steam mode on them.
Do wet-dry hard floor cleaners replace a vacuum?
On hard floors, mostly. They pick up crumbs, hair and spills while they wash. Most are not built to vacuum carpet: the Bissell CrossWave OmniForce EdgeFind has a dry-vacuum mode, and the Tineco FLOOR ONE Switch S7 Stretch converts into a stick vacuum, but the rest are hard floor machines.
What does self-cleaning mean on a hard floor cleaner?
After you finish, the machine sits in its dock and flushes clean water through the roller and tubes. The better ones then dry the roller with hot air (85°C on the Tineco S7 Stretch, 90°C on the Dreame H15 Pro), which stops it sitting damp and smelling.
Where can I buy a hard floor cleaner in Australia?
The Good Guys stocks Tineco, Dreame, Bissell, Kärcher, Shark and Narwal; JB Hi-Fi stocks Tineco; Tineco, Dreame, Bissell and Shark sell direct. On Amazon Australia, Tineco, Dreame and Roborock sell through their own stores, and Amazon itself sells several of the Dreame, Bissell and Kärcher models.
