The best wet dry vacuums in Australia
Quick answer: If you mean a vacuum that also mops hard floors, the best value is the Dreame T16 AE: 25,000 Pa, a 1 L clean tank and 95°C hot-air roller drying for $497 at The Good Guys. If half your home is carpet, the Tineco FLOOR ONE Switch S7 Stretch ($1,199 at Tineco) converts into a dry vacuum. If you mean a garage vacuum for water and debris, the Kärcher WD 4 S has a 20 L drum for $299.90 at Kärcher.

How we picked: We compared these 8 picks on tanks, run time, weight and price, using maker specs, Australian retailer prices and owner reports. We haven't tested them hands-on yet, and maker claims are labelled as theirs. Commission never changes the order. Full method.
“Wet dry vacuum” means two different things in Australian shops. Tineco and Dreame use it for their cordless vacuum-mops, and Kärcher uses it for its barrel vacuums. This guide covers both, but most of it is about the first kind: a cordless machine that vacuums and washes hard floors in one pass. Prices below are from The Good Guys, JB Hi-Fi, Tineco, Dreame and Kärcher on 18 October 2026; for models also on Amazon Australia, check the current price on Amazon. We compared maker specifications and retailer listings; we have not run these machines ourselves.
The two kinds
A wet-dry vacuum-mop (also sold as a hard floor cleaner or floor washer) has a spinning roller fed from a clean water tank. Suction lifts the dirty water, crumbs and hair into a second tank. After use it sits in a dock that rinses, and on most models dries, the roller. It is for sealed tile, vinyl, laminate and timber.
A wet and dry shop vac is a barrel vacuum with a big drum, built to suck up water, mud and sawdust. It does not wash anything. It belongs in the garage, the car or a flooded laundry. If that is what you need, skip to the shop vac section below.
For the vacuum-mops, the hard floor cleaner guide has our overall rankings. This page ranks them as vacuums: how long they run, how much they hold, and how easy they are to push and carry.
What to compare
- Tank sizes, standing and flat. Lying a machine flat to reach under a bed shrinks the usable dirty tank. Dreame’s T16 AE holds 500 mL standing and 300 mL flat.
- Run time and its mode. The Narwal S30 is rated for up to 55 minutes; the Dreame G12 Pro Flex for 35 minutes in Eco mode. Roborock’s page for the F25 LT Gen 2 does not state one.
- Drying. Hot-air drying stops the roller sitting damp. The Dreame T16 AE dries at 95°C, the Roborock at 90°C, the Tineco Switch S7 Stretch at 85°C. Tineco’s iFLOOR U5 Stretch rinses but lists no heated drying.
- Weight. The vacuum-mops here run from 4.1 kg (Dreame G12 Pro Flex, Tineco S6 Stretch, Tineco iFLOOR U5 Stretch) to 4.7 kg (Dreame T16 AE).
- Carpet. Most vacuum-mops cannot vacuum carpet dry. The Tineco Switch S7 Stretch can.

The picks
The Dreame T16 AE is the best value vacuum-mop. Its body is 9.85 cm high and lies flat to 180°, so it gets under low beds and sofas. It has a 1 L clean tank, a 90°C hot wash and a 95°C hot-air dry after each clean, dual scrapers to stop hair wrapping, and edge cleaning on both sides. The weak point is run time: 35 minutes, quoted in Quiet mode. It was $497 at The Good Guys and $499 at Dreame.
The Tineco FLOOR ONE Switch S7 Stretch is the one for homes that are part carpet. It switches between floor washer and vacuum, Tineco rates it for up to 70 minutes, and it dries its roller with 85°C hot air. At $1,199 from Tineco it only makes sense if it replaces a stick vacuum too.
The Roborock F25 LT Gen 2 is our Amazon pick. It has an 870 mL clean tank, weighs 4.2 kg, washes its roller with 90°C water and dries it with 90°C hot air in five minutes (or 22 minutes in quiet mode). Neither Roborock’s page nor the Amazon listing we read gives a run time, so check before you buy.
The Dreame G12 Pro Flex is the lightest full-feature model on Amazon at 4.1 kg, with 800 mL and 700 mL tanks and 95°C drying. The Tineco FLOOR ONE S6 Stretch lies flat and compresses to 13 cm, with a three-chamber dirty tank that Tineco says keeps water away from the motor when flat; Tineco’s store has it at $599.
The Narwal S30 ($599 at The Good Guys, online only; Narwal’s own Amazon Australia store also sells it) has the longest run time of the machines under $1,000 in this guide, 55 minutes, and keeps wet and dry waste apart. The Tineco iFLOOR U5 Stretch is the budget pick at $348, with a 1 L clean tank and a lay-flat body, but no heated drying and edge cleaning on one side only.
Shop vacs: for the garage, not the kitchen
For water on the laundry floor, sawdust or the car, a barrel wet and dry vacuum is the right tool. The Kärcher WD 4 S has a 20 L stainless steel drum, a 6 m cable and a filter you can remove without touching the dirt. It was $299.90 at Kärcher, and Amazon Australia also sells it. Amazon’s listing title says 1,600 W; Kärcher’s own spec table lists 1,100 W rated input and 240 W suction power. If you already own Ryobi ONE+ batteries, the Ryobi 18V ONE+ 18L Wet and Dry Vacuum was $169 at Bunnings as a tool only, with no battery or charger. Neither one washes floors.

The one trap
Forgetting that lying flat shrinks the dirty tank. The lay-flat body is the feature everyone wants, but the water has to go somewhere: Dreame’s T16 AE drops from 500 mL to 300 mL of dirty water when flat, its H15 Pro from 700 mL to under 480 mL, and its H16 Pro Steam from 600 mL to 400 mL. If you plan to clean under every bed, expect to empty the tank more often, or start with a larger dirty tank, such as the Narwal S30 (720 mL) or the Roborock F25 LT Gen 2 (720 mL).

Frequently asked questions
What is a wet dry vacuum?
Two different machines share the name. In homes it usually means a cordless vacuum-mop that washes hard floors and sucks the dirty water into its own tank. In sheds it means a barrel vacuum that can suck up water as well as dust, such as Kärcher's WD range.
Can a wet dry vacuum clean carpet?
A vacuum-mop is for hard floors and, on some models, rugs. Bissell says its CrossWave range can lightly refresh low-pile carpet but is not a carpet washer. For carpet, use a carpet cleaner, or a model that converts into a dry vacuum such as the Tineco Switch S7 Stretch.
Is a wet dry vacuum better than a mop?
For sealed hard floors, it is quicker and cleaner: fresh water goes down, dirty water comes up into a separate tank, and it picks up crumbs as it goes. A mop costs far less and works on any floor you can wet.
Which wet dry vacuum is best for small apartments?
A light one with a slim head. The Dreame G12 Pro Flex weighs 4.1 kg and the Dreame Floor X100 2.3 kg, and the Dreame T16 AE's 9.85 cm body gets under low furniture.
